Seishūkan Dojo · 誠修館道場

Where Discipline builds
Confidence

Traditional Shotokan Karate taught with discipline, patience, and purpose. A place to grow in character, confidence, and skill.

The way we train

Karate begins and ends with respect.

Seishūkan means “the hall of sincere training”.

We teach Karate not simply as a method of self-defense, but as a lifelong practice of character: training the body, refining the mind, and learning to act with sincerity.

  • Sei — sincerity; being genuine in heart and action, truthful in thought, and true to one’s word
  • Shu — cultivation; refining oneself through steady, dedicated practice & training
  • Kan — hall; the place where training is shared, discipline is practiced, and character is formed

Rooted in the principles of traditional Shotokan Karate, our training balances precise technique with the values that give it meaning: humility, perseverance, self-control, and respect for others.

Our emblem

Ensō and Sakura

Our dojo mark pairs two ideas from Japanese tradition: the Ensō circle and the cherry blossom. Together they express how we understand Karate as budō — sincere practice, always in progress.

Ensō 円相

The ensō is the Zen circle drawn in a single brushstroke, often left deliberately open. In Karate, it reminds us that training has no final destination: there is always more to refine in technique, character, and spirit. The empty space at the centre speaks of openness, the beginner’s mind we return to every time we bow in the dojo.

Sakura

Sakura, the cherry blossom, blooms briefly and beautifully before falling, yet the tree endures every season in quiet readiness to bloom again. In budō it symbolises the fleeting nature of each moment on the mat: giving full attention to today’s practice, knowing it will not return. Like the blossom that falls at its peak rather than fading, we learn to release fully into kata, kumite, and daily discipline.

Dojo Kun · 道場訓

Five precepts. One path.

Traditionally, in every class the Dojo Kun is recited. Each rule begins with Hitotsu (一つ) — no single precept is superior to the others.
